Coat & Blanket Drive for the Homeless

September 20 (Monday) – October 4 (Monday)

The Homeless Advisory Council of Extended Housing is collecting clean, gently used coats and jackets, scarves, gloves, hats, boots, blankets and/or sleeping bags as a part of their community outreach program.

The collected donations will be distributed to the homeless people of Lake County.  These are the neediest of our community.  They live in the woods, along the river, under a bridge, or spend freezing nights huddling against the back of buildings trying to stay warm.

Participating in the Coat and Blanket Drive is an easy way for you and your family to pass along coats, jackets and blankets you no longer need while helping those most vulnerable to a north coast winter in Ohio.

Collection containers are located at various sites throughout the county.  Check with your church, as many are participating.  All collected donations will be returned to Extended Housing at the end of the drive.  Members of the Homeless Advisory Council will take care of the rest.  Any donated items remaining after the distribution will be made available to the agencies who work with the homeless throughout the year.

The neediest of our citizens, the homeless who live on the streets, in the woods, under the bridge, or in their cars, find the winter cold the most difficult of all the seasons to survive. Many are ill-equipped to weather the cold and freezing temperatures of a north coast winter.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN make up a growing number of the homeless as people continue to lose their homes in the current financial crisis.  Winter illnesses and frostbite during especially cold weather take their toll on a population who many times are homeless through no fault of their own.

Those wishing to make a monetary contribution in lieu of, or with their coat/blanket donations, may send a check made out to Extended Housing (write “Coat Drive” in Memo Section)  and mail to Extended Housing, 462 Chardon Street,  Painesville, OH 44077.
