Coat and Blanket Drive a Resounding Success!

The Homeless Advisory Council of Extended Housing was successful in collecting coats and jackets, scarves, gloves, hats, boots, blankets, and sleeping bags as a part of their community outreach program this fall (2010).

The collected donations were distributed to approximately 70 homeless people of Lake County at a dinner for the homeless on the evening of October 15th, with enough donations to continue throughout the winter.

These are the neediest of our community. They live in the woods, along the river, under a bridge, or spend freezing nights huddling against the back of buildings trying to stay warm.

The Homeless Advisory Committee, along with Extended Housing, would like to thank all who participated (including community and social service agency volunteers, community residents, Lake County businesses, and local churches) to make this a successful event.

The Homeless Advisory Council is always looking for ways to help the homeless.  Money raised by previous events was used by the council to fund this event.  If you would like to make a monetary contribution to our cause, you may do so by sending a check made out to Extended Housing (write “Homeless Advisory Council” in Memo Section) and mail to Extended Housing, 462 Chardon Street,  Painesville, OH  44077.

Our next scheduled event is January 25th, 2011, when the Homeless Advisory Council will participate in the Ohio Point in Time Count.  This event will obtain current and accurate data used to secure information on characteristics of the homeless.  This is used for policy and planning decisions, public awareness and education.  Extended Housing will host a chili-to-go night for the homeless.  More information to come.  Any questions – please call Leah at 352-8424 x116.
